Here are some ways to speed up your computer.

MEMORY UP GRADATION:

RAM:
Upgrading your Physical memory i.e RAM will effect most drastically to boost your computer's speed.
Before you go in for an upgrade there are 3 basic things you should know

1.How Much RAM Do You Have:

If you don't know this already, Right Click on my computer and select Properties. In general tab you'll get all the details about your processor and RAM

2.How Much Do You Need:

It depends upon your need and usage. For and average computing tasks 512 MB of RAM is Fine.
But if you are an intense gamer, playing high definition games, editing movies and sounds... 1 GB is right for you

3.What Your System Supports:
Check what kind of RAM your System supports.


If you are not ready for any system upgradation, here are some alternates to make your system work faster with current RAM limit.

VIRTUAL MEMORY:

when the physical memory runs short the virtual memory kicks in. A virtual memory is a portion of hard drive in the form of page file which computer uses as a RAM when the RAM runs short. Typically the size of a paging file is approximately 1.5 times the size of your RAM.

You can increase the limit of this paging file->

1*Go to The System in Control panel. navigate to the Advanced tab.

2*Now go to the Settings Under Performance option.

3*In the Advanced tab you'll get Virtual memory

4*note what is the size of virtual memory by default

5*Click on Change button.

6* Now in the custom size let the initial size be the value which is by default(the one you noted in step 4)

7.* You are free to change the value of Maximum size. make it 2-4 times the size of your RAM

8* Click ok
