Breaking BIOS / CMOS Password Of Desktop PC

Wednesday | Labels: , , , | |

In order to change the boot order one needs to change the settings of Boot Device Priority. This setting is situated in BIOS/CMOS settings.

However it can leave you pulling your hairs out if BIOS/CMOS settings are locked down by a password.

If its the case of a Desktop PC, the matter of breaking this BIOS password is quite simple. All you need to have is physical access to the motherboard. Here is a simple How-To guide to do it within 5 minutes!

1. First open the CPU case.

2. On the motherboard look for the battery which is a silver circular disk(Button Cell).

3. CAREFULLY remove that battery, and keep it out for around 3 minutes.

4. This will clear out all the settings and password of CMOS.

5. Put the battery back into it, exactly the way it was before.

6. Reboot your computer

Now as all the settings have been flushed out you will get(or may not get) the error saying "Incorrect BIOS / CMOS settings" , or something like that.

If You Know your settings then you can manually fill it.
BUT IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH IT just look for an option similar to "Load Default/Optimal Settings. This should work fine.

LOGIC BEHIND THE TRICK:
well, the logic is quite simple...
Ever wondered why does the clock time is always right even when the computer is shutdown with no power supply. It works in real time.
Its because even when you shut the computer down, the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) keeps running. It don't depends on the external power supply, instead it has its on on-board power though this coin cell. When you remove this coin cell the power supply to the BIOS stops and it forgets everything (It has a temporary memory which remembers only till the power is on, i.e RAM) including your password and other settings.
